Every mainstream tax software sends your most sensitive financial data to servers you don't control. Your SSN, your income, your deductions — uploaded, stored, indexed, sometimes breached. We thought there was a better way.
AirGapTax is built on one principle: your tax data belongs on your machine. Not our servers. Not AWS. Not anywhere outside your house.
The software runs locally by default. It sends no telemetry. When you close the app, your data stays exactly where it was — on your device, under your control. If you choose to enable an optional external AI backend, only your chat messages are sent to the service you configure.
The tax engine is written in Rust. Fast, memory-safe, and runs natively on your hardware. No JVM. No Python interpreter. No cloud dependency.
Native desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Uses the system's built-in web renderer — no Electron, no 300 MB download of Chrome.
An optional local AI assistant is on the roadmap for the 2026 tax-year filing season (Jan 2027). When it ships, you'll be able to run it on 127.0.0.1 via Ollama or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint you control. Strictly opt-in, never enabled by default. Not included in the launch edition because we haven't tested it enough to ship.
AirGapTax is a product of AirGapTax LLC, a Florida limited liability company.
